PARIS -- The Interior Minister says that the far right may win up to 15 towns in municipal elections that allowed the governing Socialist Party, trounced in numerous cities, to save face with a win in Paris, the crown jewel.
Final results were not complete in Sunday's second round of municipal elections. But Manuel Valls said the anti-immigration National Front party may win 14 to 15 towns.
The minister said the Socialists may lose about 50 of their cities to the mainstream right.
Meanwhile Paris gets its first female mayor. Anne Hidalgo defeated a conservative right candidate, Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet.
