German champion Dortmund announces record revenue


DORTMUND, Germany (AP) -- Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund has announced revenue of €101.4 million ($134.7 million) for the six months to December last year, breaking the €100 million mark ($132.9 million) for the first time.

Dortmund says revenue is up more than €30 million ($39.9 million) compared to the first half of the year, and that pretax profit for the period from July 1 to Dec. 31, 2011 reached €16.7 million ($22.2 million).

Profit in the first half of the year was €4.3 million ($5.7 million).

Dortmund, won the Bundesliga for the first time since 2002 last season, says strict financial control coupled with sporting success helped boost the figures.

The club flirted with bankruptcy in the seasons after its previous league success.
