England's Dawson could miss European Championship

LONDON (AP) -- Defender Michael Dawson could miss England's trip to the European Championship after injuring his ankle and knee playing for Tottenham in the FA Cup.

The 28-year-old Dawson was a replacement for Rio Ferdinand at the 2010 World Cup and is in contention for the June 8-July 1 European Championship.

But Dawson limped out of Wednesday's 3-1 win over Stevenage with suspected knee and ankle ligament damage and Spurs manager Harry Redknapp says his captain could be out of action for the rest of the season.

Redknapp says "it would be a miracle to think he is not."

Ferdinand has struggled with injury this season and captain John Terry's participation is in doubt because of his fitness and the allegation that he racially abused an opponent.
