VILLARREAL, Spain (AP) -- Getafe extended Villarreal's miserable season with a 2-1 away victory on Monday that keeps the hosts mired in a relegation battle in the Spanish league.
Getafe jumped on a lapse by Villarreal's defense to score in the sixth minute, Diego Costa converting from Miku's pass after excellent build up by Abdel Barrada.
Getafe goalkeeper Migeul Angel Moya saved Borja Valero's 18th-minute penalty and his crossbar denied Marcos Senna's shot in the 38th. But he was unable to deny Nilmar from the spot in the 45th after the Brazil striker had been taken down by Cata Diaz.
Barrada ensured an important away victory at the Madrigal by finishing off a move started by Castro in the 72nd.
Getafe is eight points clear of the drop zone, while Villarreal is three.
