MBABANE, Swaziland (AP) -- A footballer in Swaziland has pleaded with his club's supporters to give him back his boots after they were taken while he was fleeing furious fans following a 5-1 loss over the weekend.
Mfanufikile Ndzimandze of Mbabane Highlanders told the Times of Swaziland on Wednesday that he dropped his boots when he and coach Sipho Xaba were chased by fans after Highlanders' worst defeat in 22 years.
Ndzimandze says "the situation was so bad no one was safe from the fans. I lost the boots as we were running to board the kombi (bus) ... some of the fans wanted to beat us up."
The 27-year-old striker says fans keeping his boots would not help Highlanders, who slipped into the relegation zone following the loss to Malanti Chiefs.
