STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (AP) -- Determination and commitment apparently are paying off for an award-winning eastern Ohio school chosen as the site of the governor's annual State of the State speech.
Wells Academy in Steubenville was named Ohio's No. 1 public elementary school in the state's first school ranking based on student test scores. The Columbus Dispatch reports ((http://bit.ly/yA3LNF ) the school will get more recognition Tuesday thanks to Gov. John Kasich's (KAY'-siks) speech.
A Kasich spokesman has said the location is important to the governor's jobs message. The school is in an economically depressed area where jobs and money are now pouring in from oil and natural gas drilling.
The Republican governor is breaking with tradition by giving the speech away from the Ohio Statehouse.
