Ohio police lights for sale online raise concerns

DELAWARE, Ohio (AP) -- A central Ohio sheriff's office has withdrawn used police lights from an online auction site after residents complained following reports of police impersonations in nearby counties, including one involving a sexual assault.

WCMH-TV (http://bit.ly/zRmSuv ) says light bars once used on deputies' cruisers were being offered online without disclaimers about the proper uses for the items. That raised concern among some residents who say they're worried that someone could purchase the lights and use them inappropriately.

Delaware County Sheriff Walter Davis III said the lights would be posted again online with more details specifying that they're intended only for legitimate public safety purposes.

Three police impersonations reported this month involved people pretending to be officers and trying to pull over drivers. One woman reported she was stopped and sexually assaulted.
