CINCINNATI (AP) -- The governor has mobilized the National Guard to tornado-ravaged areas of southern Ohio.

Gov. John Kasich (KAY'-sic) says the troops will help speed cleanup and recovery in the damaged Clermont County communities. He also has asked federal inspectors to determine whether affected families are eligible for federal relief.

Kasich toured the area Saturday and talked with President Barack Obama, but hasn't asked for a federal disaster declaration for now.

Nearly half the structures in the Ohio River village of Moscow sustained heavy damage and are among nearly 300 homes, businesses and government buildings damaged in the region by tornadoes and storms. Of those, nearly 100 have major damage.

The storms Friday night tore off roofs and crumbled walls in the area 30-40 miles east of Cincinnati. Three people were killed.
