OH group wants fatal shooting probed as hate crime

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -- A civil rights group in Ohio is asking authorities to investigate a fatal shooting by apartment security guards as a hate crime.

Members of the Dayton chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference joined family and friends of 25-year-old Dante Price on Monday to protest the March 1 shooting. The group wants the security guards charged immediately.

The Dayton Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/x1clRc ) that Dayton police were told Price was at the apartment complex to visit his 1-year-old son and that Ranger Security guards allege he used his vehicle as a weapon.

Police have not released further details. The two guards involved have not been arrested. Police expect to present the case to prosecutors for their review this week.

Ranger Security did not immediately return calls Tuesday.
