TROTWOOD, Ohio (AP) -- The city of Dayton says an undercover police officer is in serious condition after an overnight shooting that also injured a suspect.
Dayton spokesman Tom Biedenharn said Saturday that the officer's name is not being released because of his undercover work for the FBI's Safe Streets Task Force.
Biedenharn says the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting and the officer is in serious but stable condition.
WHIO-TV in Dayton reports (http://bit.ly/IWBCqt ) the officer was a veteran Dayton officer investigating suspected gang activity.
The shooting happened about 1:30 a.m. Saturday in suburban Trotwood, with numerous officers from surrounding departments responding when the call came of an officer in trouble.
