Light out at OH site of fatal ambulance-SUV crash

AKRON, Ohio (AP) -- Authorities say a traffic light was out at the intersection where an ambulance and a sport utility vehicle collided near a hospital emergency room in northeast Ohio. A passenger in the SUV was killed.

Three more people were injured in the crash early Thursday near a hospital in Akron. Police say the traffic light was out because of a power outage and, by law, that situation should be treated as a four-way stop.

The ambulance was transporting a patient on a non-emergency basis and didn't have its flashing lights or siren in use. It's unclear which vehicle entered the intersection first.

Authorities identified the victim as 57-year-old Collins Green of Akron.

No citations have been issued.
