Fire station tree is tribute to Ohio fire victim

CINCINNATI (AP) -- An evergreen tree outside a southwest Ohio fire station stands as a constant tribute to an 11-year-old girl who died in a house fire in 1999 despite firefighters' efforts to save her.

The Cincinnati Enquirer (http://cin.ci/TdiYRi ) reports that the parents of Katie Luchsinger donated the tree to the Green Township fire station in suburban Cincinnati a few years ago in memory of their daughter.

Firefighters planted the tree and care for it. And the parents, Bob and Terry Luchsinger, decorate it each Christmas with lights and ornaments.

Firefighters this year added a plaque dedicating the tree to the girl.

Lt. Russ Ruberg says firefighters may not always take care of other plants at the station, but they make sure to care for that tree.
