Man held in slaying of 16-year-old Akron girl

Associated Press Published:

AKRON -- Police say a 24-year-old man is being held in a weekend shooting in northeast Ohio that left a 16-year-old girl dead and a 19-year-old woman shot in the head. Officers say they arrested 24-year-old David Stoddard at a motel Sunday morning, shortly after the shooting at a home in Akron. Police say Stoddard knew the teens, but no motive for the shooting has been established.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office identified the dead girl Monday as Anna R. Karam.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports that police were called to the home at about 4 a.m. Sunday. Other people at the home identified Stoddard as the shooter.

The wounded woman was hospitalized. Stoddard pleaded not guilty in court Monday and is being held with a $250,000 bond.
