COLUMBUS -- Crews have repaired a major break in a main water line that spilled water across downtown Columbus streets, blocks from the Ohio Statehouse.
The break in a line running beneath the street left a busy intersection covered in muddy water Monday, and frigid temperatures slowed the repair work on the line, which was completed Tuesday afternoon. The public utilities department says the city will continue work to restore pavement in the affected areas today.
The head of the department, Greg Davies, told The Columbus Dispatch that extremely cold weather likely was a factor in the break, but officials weren't certain of the cause.
The city said a boil alert issued for some buildings in the area would remain in effect until water testing was completed.
