Kayaker trying to save dog in lake presumed dead

HILLIARD, Ohio -- Authorities say that two men in a kayak went into a lake to try to rescue a dog in Hilliard and one remained missing and was presumed dead.

Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott said Kyle Miller, 21, and Austin Gifford, 19, were kayaking in Darby Bend Lakes in the Prairie Oaks Metro Parks Saturday when they went into the frigid water to rescue the dog. Scott said Gifford attempted to rescue Miller. He said that Miller is presumed dead.

The dog also died.
