WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) -- Colonial Williamsburg is set to open a new exhibit featuring painters and paintings of the Early American South.

The historic area says the exhibit is scheduled to open on March 23 at the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum.

It will feature more than 80 works created in or for the South between 1735 and 1800.

The exhibition includes portraits, landscapes, seascapes and other artworks pertinent to the Atlantic coast states from Maryland southward and the upper coast of the Gulf of Mexico.

A number of the objects are on loan from many other well-known and respected museums and a number of private collectors.

The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation operates and maintains the preserved 18th century site as an educational and tourist venue.
