Bloomberg talks on immigration reform

WASHINGTON -- Former New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg says a Republican Party that ignores the nation's Hispanics and balks at immigration overhaul does so at its peril.

Bloomberg, a Republican-turned-independent, joined Michigan Republican Gov. Rick Snyder and former Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez on Friday to increase the pressure on Congress to act this year.

Bloomberg said a political party that ignores the fastest-growing voting bloc has no future.

Boehner and the GOP leadership are working on a set of principles on immigration that they expect to present to the caucus next week at its annual retreat. The document has given new hope to immigration proponents.
