WASHINGTON -- William Magwood, a member of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission whose criticism helped lead to the ouster of the agency's former chairman, says he is leaving the five-member commission.
Magwood, a Democrat, has served on the NRC since 2010. He was one of four commissioners -- two Democrats and two Republicans -- who wrote to the White House in late 2011, complaining that then-NRC Chairman Gregory Jaczko was a bully responsible for a tense and unsettled work environment, and that women at the NRC felt particularly threatened. Jaczko left the agency in May 2012.
Before joining the NRC, Magwood headed the Energy Department's Office of Nuclear Energy and was a top official at an electric industry trade association. He is joining the Paris-based OECD Nuclear Energy Agency in September.
