The Chapel in Marlboro recently hosted a benefit concert for the food pantry at the Alliance Salvation Army, featuring world- renowned gospel pianist Huntley Brown.

More than 600 people were in attendance, including Mayor Alan Andreani, Councilman Larry Dordea and State Sen. Scott Oelslager.

During a brief intermission, Oelslager shared the importance of faith-based ministries.

Also, Salvation Army Capt. Steve Griffin shared that the Alliance Post feeds 160 needy families each month through the food pantry and also offers a free lunch each Friday to the needy. Usually 60 to 70 free lunches are served on Friday, he said.

The Chapel in Marlboro had asked for food contributions, and two large vans were completely filled with donated groceries recently.

Also, a free will offering that exceeded $1,450 was received and given to the food pantry of the Alliance Salvation Army.
