The junior/senior high youth, advisers, mentors and chaperones of Suffield United Church of Christ will leave at 4:30 today for Cincinnati for the sixth annual Christmas Ministry Mission Trip.
This year, the group will consist of 30 youth and adults, including the new pastor and his wife.
The groups spends months preparing for the trip and collecting gifts of new clothing, hats and gloves, and toys donated by the congregation.
Upon arrival at Washington United Church of Christ in Cincinnati, the group will be greeted by Pastor Pam and Jean (the coordinator of the Christmas Ministry). During the weekend, the group will create a "store" and welcome one member of each registered family to "shop" for the children in their household. Each family is also given a box of food to supply their Christmas dinner and then some.
This mission, which began more than 25 years ago, now provides for almost 400 children each Christmas.
The group will return about 10 p.m. Sunday.
