Annual Mass for Life is planned for Jan. 19

Most Rev. George V. Murry, S.J., Bishop of Youngstown, will celebrate the annual diocesan Mass for Life at noon Jan. 19 at St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St., Youngstown.

At the Mass, expectant parents and their families will be invited to receive a blessing for their unborn baby. The new "Blessing of a Child in the Womb" was granted Vatican approval in March, and was created to encourage prayer and recognition of the child in the womb and to foster respect for human life within society.

Following the Mass, a pasta luncheon will be provided in St. Columba Hall.

The Mass for Life is held annually to encourage respect for all human life and to mark the 1973 Supreme Court decisions Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, which legalized abortion.

All are welcome to attend. No reservations are necessary.
