Unity Chapel of Light, 503 Northwest Ave. in Tallmadge, recently invested in some equipment for the church, along with training for eight congregants, that it hopes it will never have to use.
Though the congregation is relatively small (about 140 people), the board of trustees felt it was important to have an AED (automatic defibrillator) on-site in case of an emergency.
Members of the congregation contributed, and eight congregants stepped forward to be trained as first responders.
The first responders were trained and are certified in first aid, AED operation and the administration of oxygen. Equipment and training were provided by the American Red Cross.
The church's motivation for publicizing its emergency preparations is to encourage other community groups to consider the importance of first response programs.
Unity Chapel of Light is a welcoming, open-hearted church that teaches practical application of the teachings of Jesus. Unity sees value in all of the world's religions and welcomes individuals from all belief systems, lifestyles and backgrounds. Those who are inspired by Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer, Eckhart Tolle and Marianne Williamson, to name a few, will appreciate Unity.
