This is No. 29 on the Record-Courier's list of 30 Things To Do in Portage County.

Hike to the lookout point on Eagle Loop trail at Towner’s Woods park

An urban legend surrounding Towner’s Woods park says that the spirits of Native Americans who inhabited the lands near Lake Pippen still roam the trails. While the easily accessible Hopewell Mound provides history and ghostly chills, it’s the lake itself and the twisting trails that draws some.

A source point for the City of Akron, Lake Pippen is physically off-limits to visitors. But walking the shoreline amongst towering pines provides spectacular views. Follow the Lakeside Trail until it meets the Eagle Loop trailhead. Along the way you’ll walk wood bridges over small creeks and pass by moss-covered picnic shelters. Watch for the lookout point at the trail’s northern terminus where the lake’s water laps gently against pebbled shores.

Address: 2264 Ravenna Road in Franklin Township
