This is No. 21 on the Record-Courier's list of 30 Things To Do in Portage County.

While the Headwaters Trail in Northern Portage County will take you a 8 miles, the Hike and Bike Trail will take you two-times farther. Stretching from the Summit County line in the east through Kent and into Ravenna in the west, the trail explores the middle section of the county. It also serves as a key link to the more extensive Summit County Metroparks system.

On this trail you can hike, walk, bike or cross-country ski through Kent State University’s main campus, downtown Kent, through Towner’s Woods park and onto historic downtown Ravenna, the county seat. It follows the historic Erie Railroad line and dates further back as a Native American trading route. You’ll see historic buildings, dense, colorful forests and even preserved prairies along the way.

There are several places to pick up the trail throughout the county, including trailheads on Lake Rockwell Road and Towner’s Woods in Franklin Township, at 535 Cleveland Road in Ravenna, 7173 Hudson Road and 784 Judson Road in Franklin Township.
