Rootstown learns about weather

Published:

Christine Ferreira from WEWS (Channel 5) in Cleveland recently talked to fourth grade students at Rootstown Elementary School about weather. The assembly was the result of grants received by teacher Theresa Sopko. The $2,990 grant from the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation and a $500 grant from the Akron Council of Engineering and Scientific Societies. Sopko also used the grant money to purchase a weather station at the school. Ferreira explained what a meteorologist does, told them what kind of jobs they can get with a degree in meteorology, took them on a virtual tour of Channel 5, explained how the weather report is done, and explained and showed pictures of all kinds of weather.
