Crash on I-76 in Rootstown sends 2 to hospitals

Troopers from the Ravenna Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol are investigating a one-car crash that occurred at approximately 5:25 p.m. Friday on Interstate 76 between S.R. 44 and S.R. 14, sending two people to area hospitals.

A 2002 Saturn LW2 station wagon, driven by Eva M. Heckert, 24, of Ravenna, was traveling eastbound on I-76 when it traveled off the right side of the road, striking a guardrail and then coming back across the eastbound lanes into the median, where it struck a concrete barrier according to the highway patrol.

Heckert was transported to Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna by Rootstown paramedics. Her passenger, 61-year-old Gerald Petrock of Canfield, was transported to Akron City Hospital by Rootstown paramedics.
