Dog license price doubles Friday

Published:

Got your dog tags yet? Portage County dog owners have until end of business Thursday to get their annual dog licenses at the $12 rate.

Starting Feb. 1 the price doubles.

Kennel licenses, now $60, also go up as of Friday.

Licenses are available from the Portage County Auditor, 449 S. Meridian St., Ravenna, the Portage County Dog Warden, 8129 Infirmary Road, Shalersville, or at about a dozen outlets around the county (with an additional 75-cent processing fee).

A registration form can be downloaded at http://www.co.portage.oh.us/auditor_pdfs/Dog%20Registration%20Application.pdf from the auditor's web site.

Licenses not only are required by state law, but are identification for lost dogs. Fees from dog licenses are used to operate the county dog warden's office and pound.
