University Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center recently announced the opening of a new 20-bed skilled rehabilitation center in Akron.

The new center is designed for short-term stays and is located in the heart of downtown Akron, in close proximity to Akron General and Summa Hospitals.

Deborah Cheatham, administrator of University Park, said "This opening is a reflection of our commitment to providing first-class skilled rehab and specialized care for our patients. In addition to our existing capabilities, this new facility will enable us to care for more than 98 patients at a time."

Center amenities include furnished private rooms with free cable, flat screen televisions and WiFi; licensed physical, occupational and speech therapists; dining areas with menus developed by a registered dietician; 24-hour registered and licensed nursing staff, including a restorative registered nurse and respiratory unit with nurses specifically trained in pulmonary care.

This facility represents an investment of more than $500,000 by University Park and will create 10 to 15 new full-time administrative and clinical jobs at this location.
