Vigil planned in Streetsboro for victims of Connecticut shooting

A vigil in remembrance of the students and teachers who were slain in the recent Connecticut school shooting is being planned for 6 p.m. Friday night at the Streetsboro Flea Market, 1513 S.R. 303.

It is being organized by Ralph Knerem of Streetsboro, who said 26 bells will be rung at the vigil in remembrance of the 26 children and teachers who died. Candles will be lit in their memory.

"We want to recognize the children and teachers and to let the parents and loved ones know that Streetsboro supports them," he said. "We want them to know that if they need help with anything, we are here for them."

"I want people to remember that these kids never had a chance to grow up, to graduate, to get married and have children of their own," said Knerem. "It is a sad situation that something like this has to happen in our nation."

The event is open to the public. Knerem expects the event to last about one-half hour to one hour.

"Anyone is welcome to come up and say anything they want," he said.
