CLEVELAND (AP) -- Police in Cleveland say an ex-con who kidnapped a former girlfriend shot and killed himself as officers approached a car he was in with the woman.
A police spokesman says the woman is being checked out at a hospital, but her condition is unknown.
Officers got a tip that the car they were looking for was on Cleveland's west side Monday morning.
Police had been searching for 35-year-old Derrick Hudson since Saturday morning. That's when they say he kidnapped his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint after shooting and injuring his aunt and uncle, who live in the same building.
Police say Hudson had been released from prison recently after serving 10 years for manslaughter in the killing of the woman's boyfriend at the time.
