AKRON, Ohio (AP) -- A northeast Ohio mayor facing foreclosure on a house where he lived with a girlfriend says he didn't know the property was in arrears.
Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic (pluhs-KWEHL'-ihk) says he moved out nearly four years ago, and his ex-girlfriend took over payments when they separated. He says he wasn't alerted before the foreclosure was filed last week and is considering his options.
The Akron Beacon Journal (http://bit.ly/19CQZR6 ) reports the pair bought the six-bedroom home for nearly $267,000 in 2008. The complaint from Wells Fargo bank accuses them of defaulting on payments beginning in April.
The newspaper reports a bank spokesman said he couldn't comment on the case.
Plusquellic says the house has been posted for sale twice in the past four years. The mayor now rents a downtown apartment.
