Ohio court returns child to mom living in Arizona

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- The Ohio Supreme Court has ordered a child returned to the custody of her mother who had moved to Arizona, rejecting custody claims filed by the child's paternal grandfather.

The court says the Sandusky County Juvenile Court did not follow state law in awarding custody to the grandfather, who filed his request when the woman, who was visiting Ohio, returned to Arizona temporarily without her daughter.

The court's 5-2 decision Tuesday also said the juvenile court's temporary order didn't give the woman adequate rights to appeal.

The case involved a woman granted sole custody of her daughter in 2009, after which she moved to Arizona. She left the girl temporarily with her mother on a visit to Ohio in 2012 when she returned to Arizona for a job interview.
