Heavy rainfall around Ohio prompts flood warnings

GRANVILLE, Ohio (AP) -- Forecasters have put much of Ohio under flood warnings or related advisories as showers and thunderstorms continue throughout the state.

The National Weather Service issued flood warnings for parts of Adams, Pike and Scioto counties in southern Ohio because of heavy rain early Friday.

In central Ohio, a piece of a two-lane road near Granville collapsed over a stream, leaving a hole that stretched almost from one side to the other as rainfall washed away the pavement.

Several northern Ohio rivers had flood warnings as forecasters reminded drivers not to proceed through water-covered roadways.

Flooding concerns in northeast Ohio led the National Park Service to temporarily close the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail in Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH'-guh) Valley National Park.
