TOLEDO -- Black is the new hot color for an Ohio-based company that makes glass bottles.
Owens-Illinois Inc. says it's increasing its black-glass production capabilities at its plants worldwide to meet higher demand.
The company with headquarters in suburban Toledo says beer, wine, and liquor makers are increasingly asking for black-colored bottles. An Owens-Illinois executive tells The Blade newspaper in Toledo that black glass projects a premium image.
The company says it now has 19 different black bottle products, while it just had a handful four years ago.
MillerCoors brewing company is using the company's jet black bottles for its new Miller Fortune premium beer. The brewer says it was looking for something unique to launch its new beer.
