The Portage County Gardeners recently met at the Portage County Gardeners Center in Rootstown to discuss plans for the upcoming year. Presiding over the meeting, Rose Darling, president, with members from the various county garden clubs, scheduled the 2003 calendar of events.
The Presidents Tea, which is the first formal meeting of the year, will be held at 1 p.m. Feb. 18 at the center. This event, to be hosted by the executive committee, will honor past and present presidents of all the county garden clubs. The event is open to all members, including members-at-large. Program books for 2003 will be available at that time.
The gardeners annual rummage sale is set for April 4 and 5. Dorothy Curry, sale chairman, urges members to donate items found during spring housecleaning.
The Annual May Mart, which is open to the public, will be held May 16 and 17 at the center, rain or shine. All member garden clubs share in planning this sale, which provides gardeners with freshly dug perennials, lettuce gardens, annuals, herbs and many other items.
Gardeners will hold four workshops at the center, which are scheduled in the program books.
During 2003, the Portage County Gardeners also will present four special programs, to be announced, which are open to the public.
