Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots sounds like a bunch of hippies playing Atari on Mars, what with all the textured electronics, acoustic guitar samples, fuzzy vocals and groovy homages to Japanimation. Seriously, these guys are so accessible and diverse that both Beck AND Justin Timberlake have shared the stage with them. But dont take our word for it. The Lips are such nice guys that theyll let you listen to their album for free on their Web site at www.flaminglips.com.
Attempt the Impossible: Thats what Relic, a Vancouver, British Columbia-based game development studio, has you do in its latest offering to hit the shelves. A follow-up to smash hit Homeworld, the new 3D real-time strategy game is worthy of praise, if only for its unique approach. Impossible Creatures has players form an army of fearsome creatures by mixing and matching the parts of different animals allowing you to tackle the game with a new set of creatures each time. A solid graphics engine, tight sound (if a little repetitive) and a promising mod community on-line make it fun. Dont let the box-art scare you away the game is a worthwhile addition to any real-time strategy game collection.
