PORTAGE COUNTY Area youth services vie for national campaign awards

The nations top community service winners in the 30th anniversary Colgate Youth for America will be chosen by a judging panel led by Hilary Duff, Disney TVs Lizzie McGuire, and Michelle Trachtenberg of UPNs Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

The award-winning program presents cash grants for the best completed service projects by local units of Camp Fire USA, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of the USA, Girls Incorporated, and National 4-H Council, organizations representing 13 million children across America.

More than 300 local clubs and troops of these leading national organizations will receive checks for up to $2,000 for their outstanding projects.

The Youth for America campaign is part of a worldwide network of Colgate-Palmolive Company-sponsored youth programs.

Recent winning projects have included raising guide-dog puppies for the blind, Internet training for seniors, environmental improvement initiatives, after-school care services, violence-prevention efforts, baby-sitting for special needs children and thousands of other community-focused programs, all reflecting the genuine concerns of the nations young people.
