PORTAGE COUNTY Area club helps kids smile Boys & Girls Club assists with free dental care

Members of the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County recently took part in Give Kids a Smile: National Childrens Dental Access Day.

Dentists at more than 5,000 sites participated in events big and small to provide free services to children. The American Dental Association created Give Kids A Smile to focus national attention on the issue of access to oral health care for children.

The Boys & Girls Club members traveled to Akron to the offices of Dr. Loren Petry. Dr. Petry and his staff were great with the kids, said Matt Harper, executive director of the club. Our kids had checkups and cleanings, and a few even had cavities filled. Give Kids A Smile day fit in perfectly with our Health and Life Skills programming.

The Boys & Girls Club has played an integral role in the Ravenna community for nearly 50 years, providing daily programs and services to area young people. The club is open weekdays with programs in Character and Leadership Development, Education and Career Development, Health and Life Skills, the Arts and Sports, Fitness and Recreation.

For more information about the club, call (330) 296-8535 or visit the club on-line at www.portageclubs.org.
