We now have a new literary organization in town called The Twentieth Century Club. It was organized at the home of Mrs. Harry Wadsworth last Monday evening Garrettsville Journal, Feb. 21, 1901
The Twentieth Century Club met April 25 at the residence of Elma Pierce. After roll call and the business meeting, the following program was rendered under the direction of the leader, Lizzie Higby; Biography of Nathaniel Hawthorne, Lottie Taylor; Hawthornes Trip to Niagara, Etta Wadsworth; paper, The Brook Farm, Maud Edney; Tests, Questions and Current Events. The next meeting will be held Oct. 3 at the home of Mrs. Lucia Raymond Garrettsville Journal May 1, 1901
The focus of the group was educational, but it also provided a way for the ladies to use their dramatic and musical talents. The motto of the club chosen in 1912, Step by Step Onward, reflects that the women were also interested in moving forward and learning about what is happening in the community, country and world Record-Courier March 29, 1995
