Gardeners raise funds for center

The Portage County Gardeners Rummage Sale, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 4 and 5 at the Portage County Gardeners Center, 5154 S. Prospect St., Rootstown, is open to the public.

Members of the seven area garden clubs, who are members of the Portage County Gardeners, donate gently used items such as books, kitchen items, knickknacks, gardening items, household items, (everything except clothing), to the annual sale, which helps with the maintenance of the center.

Members are encouraged to drop off items at the center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Wednesday the week of the sale.

During the past winter, the building was completely painted on the inside, and the entire parking lot was improved. Membership to the various garden clubs is open to the public.

The group sponsors programs throughout the year, as well as workshops, trips, a spring plant sale (May Mart) and the Fall Harvest Boutique.

It also promotes horticultural education, the love of gardening, conservation, and sound ecological practices.
