Winfield Pantry and Hot Meal Site has been serving the Ravenna city and township and surrounding areas in Portage County for 10 years. The center has faithfully served hot meals every Monday and distributed food bags the last Wednesday of each month. Emergency food distribution has been on an as-needed basis. The Lord has placed it in the spirit of those at the Winfield site to start today a Saturday free lunch program. The lunch is open to the public and will be served from noon to 1 p.m. on the first and third Saturdays of each month. Volunteers, food, clothing and monetary donations would be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Janice McDaniel, program coordinator, at (330) 296-5880 or (330) 678-1491. Your prayers as well as your help are also requested as these people of God strive to do what Jesus has commissioned them to do.April 20 is Easter Sunday. I am sure that many churches and various organizations are planning Easter parties and Easter egg hunts for the children. Although I dont have a list of the when and where, you can contact your local community centers and churches to find out the dates and times. Our children are precious little darlings given to us to cherish and take care of. Dont allow the devil to steal your joy and the joy of your children. Go to the parties, enjoy the warm days, have fun and let God have complete control of your daily lives. Love and care for your children now while they are with you because sooner than you think they will grow up and be on their own. Another line dancing class will be held next month. Be on the look out for more information in next months column regarding time and place. We truly thank Willyard Elementary School Principal Diana Kentner for allowing us to use the gymnasium. We had lots of fun and requests to do it again. The second annual Mother/Daughter Luncheon, sponsored by the Womens Department of Winfield Church of God in Christ in Ravenna, will be held May 3 at the Eagles Club on Cleveland Road in Ravenna. Mother Johnnie Mae Evans is the president of the Womens Department and Elder Willie Evans is the pastor. The theme this year is Passing the Torch. The speakers will be two anointed women of God, Sister Janice McDaniel and Sister Catrina Burwell of Winfield Church of God in Christ. Calling all mothers, grandmothers, daughters, sisters, nieces and friends, come out and hear a message from the Lord. There will be a light lunch, door prizes and musical selections. Tickets are now on sale through April 25 and must be purchased in advance in order to have a count in preparation for the luncheon and to accommodate seating. Cost for children 12 or younger is $5 per person and adults $10 per person. Everyone must purchase a ticket. For additional information, call (330) 296-2045 or (330) 296-3698. I read with interest the news article on the Norman Stikes Sr. Humanitarian Award ceremony held recently. I truly applaud the effort and work the young people put into it. We should be thankful for the people with the vision to continue the great work that was started by Mr. Stikes and to carry his legacy through our youth. JoAnn Stikes, wife of the late Norman Stikes Sr., is a remarkable woman, teacher, mother and grandmother. She has been a guiding force in the Ravenna school system and in the community. Many young people have been blessed by her presence and her teaching. Let us continue to pray for the leaders in our communities. April is a month of new flower buds and the signs of spring. Here are some of the wonderful people born in this month: Lyteka Solomon, Lynn Kelley, Veronica Monson, Marie Fortson, Danielle Jackson, Devonte McKinney, Dennis Monson Jr., Eddie Sipplen, Pam Sipplen, Carrie Monson, Kenny Moore, Mother Johnnie Mae Evans, first lady of Winfield Church of God in Christ, Perry Taylor, Clara Burwell and Ebony Williams. May the Lord continue to bless each one of you. A special note: Last month when announcing birthdays, I missed my very dear friend Helen Eichelberger, another wonderful March baby. Since her birthday is close to mine, we always try to celebrate together in some small way lunch, dinner or something. This month we attended the Kent Womens Social Club Fashion Show and Luncheon together along with my sister and other friends. We had a wonderful time and the fashion show was great. Happy belated birthday, Helen. Im sorry I missed you last month.Eddie and I have accepted the call of God to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ.
