The Mantua-Shalersville Area Chamber of Commerce met recently at the Mantua Village Lodge. Vice President Paulette Nichols introduced guest speakers Mary Paul and Jackie Mumaw, who gave a presentation on the upcoming Hattie Larlham Golf Classic held each year at Sugarbush Golf Club in Garrettsville. The event will be held on May 21 and applications are being taken for morning and afternoon rounds of golf. The deadline is May 9. Call Matt Petrick at (800) 233-8611 for information. Crestwood Superintendent Bob Jurca and Tom Dean gave the group an update on the new elementary buildings being constructed on Bowen Road. The buildings are set to open in 2004 and the four existing buildings are expected to be put up for auction. The group also discussed the Portage County Soap Box Derby, set for June 28 in Mantua.
