Thank you to all of the area businesses that donated items or money toward Crestwood Middle Schools sixth-grade proficiency breakfasts. These businesses included: Giant Eagle in Garrettsville, McDonalds in Mantua, Venders Supply of America, Hiram College Food Service, Tax Pro, Extreme Pizzeria, Village Tavern and Advanced Rehabilitation. Two hundred thirty-six students were offered a delicious breakfast snack during a stressful five days of testing. Thats 1,180 breakfasts. Thank you also to all the parents and students who got to school early every day to help set up and serve. These people included: Nancy Brewer, Rosalie Franek, Kathy Liebreth, Debbie Stephens, Marie Podojil, Ann Weslow, Susan Zukas and Julie Schrecengost. St. Joseph Church in Mantua will hold an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday in the school cafeteria at 11045 St. Joseph Blvd., off Pioneer Trail. The pancakes will be served with syrup and homemade fruit toppings, sausage patties and your choice of coffee, tea, orange juice or milk. Prices are $4.50 for adults, $3 for seniors, $2 for children 6 to 12 and free for children 5 and younger. Children will get a chance for a free Easter basket. There will also be a basket raffle for snack, garden and pamper me baskets. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. The American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 193 will meet at 1 p.m. Monday at the post home. The unit is still collecting tote bags and small luggage for veterans at the Veterans Administration Hospital. These can be dropped off at the soup supper along with useable clothing for men and women. Comfort items, socks and underwear are also needed. Each month fifth- and sixth-grade teachers at Crestwood Middle School select students from their homerooms who are deserving of the student of the month award. These students attend a breakfast especially for them and receive their awards. The students of the month for March are: Fifth grade: Cora Bowser, Sallia Martin, David Kocisko, Gina Fiorille, Rene Scopilliti, Rebecca Matta, Melany Brugmann, Emily Dean, Jessica McClendon, Andrew Holcomb, Jessica Brooks, Sean Fenrich, Kaitlin Osborn and Abbey Corbett. Sixth grade: Adam Thompson, Krysta Van Horn, Samantha Kelly, Matthew McGregor, Audrey Simon, Jesse McCallum, Courtney Huzl, David Collica, Elizabeth Franks, Clayton Faust, Megan Scarl, Anthony Svab, Jessica Dennis, Bryan Wagner, Sonya Inman and Robert Reddick. Katy Wiggers, the daughter of Rick and Nancy Wiggers of Mantua who is attending Cedarville University near Dayton, is planning a five-week mission trip to Australia with her gospel choir group. Katy is a 2000 graduate of Crestwood High School and is studying elementary education. She is in her junior year. The choir recently performed at several Cleveland area churches including Providence Road Baptist Church, St. James AME Church and Morning Star Baptist Church.
