PIONEER WOMEN TOPIC FOR HERB SOCIETY

Eleanor McConnell Published:

The Portage County Herb Society met recently at the Portage County Gardeners Center in Rootstown. The business session was conducted by President Tran LaCivita and the program featured Shirley Riemenschneider of the Rootstown Historical Society and Sharon Lewis of the Portage County Office of the Ohio State University Extension, discussing pioneer women. From left, are Helen Gless, program chairman; Lewis in colonial attire; and LaCivita. Hostesses were Dorothy Curry, Betty DeMali and Patti Gregory. Lewis provided a pioneer drink, Swetzel, for the members to taste. Members were encouraged to take their children to see the barns in each of the 88 counties which have the Ohio logo painted on them.
