RAVENNA Parks Department to offer youth swim lessons in May

Ravenna Parks and Recreation will offer youth swim lessons on Wednesdays and Saturdays from April 30 to May 24 at the Chestnut Hills Wellness Center in Ravenna. Level one lessons (6:05 to 6:45 p.m. Wednesdays, 11 to 11:35 a.m. Saturdays), for children 6 to 13, are to help the swimmers feel comfortable in the water and enjoy water safety. Students will learn bubble blowing, front and back floats, kick glide and water safety rules. Level two lessons (6:45 to 7:20 p.m. Wednesdays, 11:40 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Saturdays), for children 7 to 13, builds on skills learned in level one. Skills taught include safety assist, rhythmic breathing, strokes and kick glides. Level three lessons (7:25 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, 12:20 to 12:55 p.m., Saturdays), for children 8 to 13, teaches elementary backstroke, butterfly, treading and continued perfection of the front and back crawl stroke. Requirement for the course is the successful completion of level two and the ability to swim 15 yards. Lessons will be taught by a water safety certified instructor. The fee is $35 for city taxpayers and $30 for non-city taxpayers. Registration deadline is one week prior to the start of the session or until class is filled. Pre-registration is a must.
