The Portage County Teen Board selected Zack Corby and Emily Rybak as the Teens of the Month for September.
Zack is the son of John and Jennifer Corby of Rootstown. He attends Southeast High School, where he is a senior. At school, he has been active in link crew, basketball, baseball and football. He is vice president of his class and worked on the prom committee as a junior.
He has received varsity letters in football and baseball, was a scholar athlete in football, baseball and basketball, and a Portage Trail Conference Scholar Athlete in football and baseball.
He enjoys fishing, hunting and being with friends. He also enjoys playing euchre and poker and is a big fan of crossword and sudoku puzzles.
Zack plans to attend the University of Pennsylvania or Case Western Reserve University and wants to study to become a bioengineer.
Emily is the daughter of James and Ellen Rybak of Garrettsville. She is a senior at James A. Garfield High School, where she is president of the National Honor Society and has participated in varsity softball and the post-secondary enrollment option. She also is a volunteer at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. She has earned Distinguished Achievement in algebra and geometry and has won honors in French and English.
She enjoys activities that keep her active, especially club softball. She also enjoys bike riding, hiking and skiing, as well as reading.
Emily plans to major in biochemistry or chemistry in college, then enter medical school and study to become a physician or earn a joint Ph.D. and M.D. to become a medical research scientist.
