Children's baking contest set in Aurora

By Mary Louise Ruehr Published:

Budding bakers in grades two to eight can test their skills at the Aurora Memorial Library's "Design a Dessert" program at 2 p.m. Feb. 9.

Similar to the "Chopped" TV program, contestants must create a dessert that includes three main ingredients: chocolate chips, pudding (boxes of pudding mix are available at the library), and graham crackers or vanilla wafers. Unlike the TV program, bakers should prepare their desserts in advance (enough for 15 taste-testers) and bring them on the day of the program.

In addition, contestants are asked to illustrate the recipe directions for their dessert on a mini-poster, which they can pick up at the library. Participants will vote on the most creative, best tasting, most kid-friendly recipe, and best mini-poster. Winners in each category will receive prizes.

To register for "Design a Dessert," stop at the library, 115 E. Pioneer Trail, or call 330-562-6502. For more information, visit the Portage County District Library website at www.portagelibrary.org.
