Around Ravenna by Toni Brown-Harris

My husband and I would like to send condolences and prayers to Deseree Liddell and her family on the loss of her older daughter, Sandra Corleen Liddell-Oppong, who was a resident of Chicago.

Mrs. Liddell has and continues to be a light and beacon in the Skeels community for many years.

She has been a mentor to me since I met her almost 28 years ago, watching her work and build up the area she loves so much.

Kudos to Sharon Sanders, director of the Skeels Community Center, for her dedication in keeping the Martin Luther King Jr. program and other events going at the center while she was going through the loss of her sister.

God has given strength to this family and He will continue to strengthen and bless each one during this difficult time.

A special shout-out to Jeff and Linda Sanders of Ravenna, who were able to be at the graduation of their son, Jeffrey L. Sanders Jr., from the University of South Florida on Dec. 15. His birthday was the next day on Dec. 16 (what a birthday present!).

Jeffrey Jr. earned his bachelor's degree along with 4,000 other graduates with a 3.7 grade point average.

He is an alumnus of Ravenna High School, where he graduated in 1998. Jeff is living in Florida with his wife, Jamie, (also a Ravenna High grad) and their three children.

He works at a Florida hospital and plans to return to college for his master's degree.

His parents and all of us in the Ravenna community are Godly proud of Jeff's accomplishments!
