The annual NAACP Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast was recently held at the United Church of Christ in Kent.
The Rev. William Blake served as master of ceremonies. "Sharing the Light of the Dream" was presented by the Rev. Deborah Austin-Sanders.
The Rev. David Pattee welcomed the group to the event, and the Rev. Andrew Wright gave the invocation.
The opening song, "Lift Every Voice and Sing," was accompanied on piano by Eddie Mae Prisby.
Ravenna students Lindsey Stennett, LeAndre Williams-Liddell, Colin Armstrong and Dontez James presented a Martin Luther King Jr. Tribute.
Soloist Sharon Coleman was followed by the Rev. Douglas Denton giving the breakfast prayer.
Following breakfast, the Introduction of Public Officials was carried out by Kent Mayor Jerry Fiala and State Sen. John Eklund. Elder Eddie Harris gave the Introduction of Ministers, and the Rev. Pamela Canzater-Cheney presented the Day of Service.
Following a performance by the Upper Room Ministries Gospel Choir, scholarships were presented by Dr. Geraldine Hayes Nelson.
The Rev. Andrew Wright of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church and Portage County Commissioner Maureen Frederick were recognized.
Closing remarks, given by the Rev. Deborah Austin-Sanders and the Rev. Eddie Renfroe, were followed by the closing song, "We Shall Overcome."
