Phyllis Wise marks her 90th birthday

Phyllis Wise of Streetsboro celebrated her 90th birthday this year.

Born Feb. 6, 1923, in Cleveland to Roy and Virginia Kresge, Phyllis attended John Adams High School and attended Glenville School of Nursing in Chicago, Ill., where she earned her status as a registered nurse.

She has been a private duty nurse in pediatrics at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna and director of nursing at Valley View Convalescent Home.

Phyllis married Hubert Hilston on Oct. 29, 1945, and was widowed upon his death, Oct. 29, 1980. Their children are Eric and Becky (Angebrandt) Hilston of Streetsboro and Dawn (Hilston) and Jorge Vallejos of Columbus.

She was married to C. Merrill Wise from Jan. 28, 1984, until his death on April 5, 2004.

She has five grandchildren.

Phyllis has lived in Portage County for 63 years. She attends Streetsboro United Methodist Church and enjoys golf, reading and traveling.

A celebration in her honor, hosted by her children, was held Feb. 10 at the Streetsboro United Methodist Church. In attendance were family members, friends, former Girl Scouts, and the church congregation.
